Since Alberto Åberg's age group is screened for bowel cancer in Stockholm, Alberto sent in a stool sample when he was called.
The test showed that there was blood in the stool and during a colonoscopy examination, the doctors discovered that Alberto's colon was almost completely blocked by the tumor.
Is grateful for the screening
The form of cancer causes the third most deaths in the country and the National Board of Health and Welfare recommended national screening of all 60-74-year-olds.
But so far, only two regions do so - the Stockholm and Gotland regions.
Another five are in the process of screening for the elderly in 2021.
Alberto Åberg is grateful that he was screened.
- A diagnosis like this is equal to death for most people, but I look forward to the summer, he says.
