The family of Saudi activist Loujain Al-Hathloul announced on Wednesday evening that the Saudi authorities had released her.

"Loujain has been released," her sister Lina tweeted, adding that in English, "Loujain is at home."

A picture from a video chat with her sister, Loujain, was attached to her tweet.

After her release, Jane will be subject to surveillance and a travel ban, with the prison sentence of two years and 10 months suspended.

Al-Hathloul, 31, was arrested in May 2018, and late last month the authorities referred her case to a court for terrorism cases.

A Saudi court had sentenced Loujain Al-Hathloul to 5 years and 8 months in prison, and the ruling included a stay of two years and 10 months of the prescribed punishment.

Saudi media reported that the court convicted Loujain Al-Hathloul on charges of inciting to change the basic system of government, seeking to serve an external agenda inside the kingdom, using the Internet to harm public order, and cooperating with a number of individuals and entities, and said that this comes under the system of combating terrorist crimes and its financing.

It ruled that in the event that it commits any crime within the next three years, the suspension will be deemed null.
