100 days after the corona-related closure of all restaurants and pubs, the hospitality industry is pressing for a clear perspective as to when it may reopen.

"Seeing light at the end of the tunnel would also be extremely important mentally for our entrepreneurs and employees," said Thorsten Hellwig from the Dehoga NRW industry association.

The catering has been closed since November 2nd, only out-of-home sales are allowed.

Hotels are only allowed to accommodate business travelers who, due to the lack of conferences, trade fairs and other meetings, hardly exist anymore.

The industry feels that it has been treated unfairly because it has invested heavily in protective measures and almost no infections are known when visiting restaurants.

The association is in favor of a gradual opening: According to a Dehoga proposal, the hotels should be open to everyone again with a seven-day incidence of 75 and less and the restaurants and cafes should be allowed to operate their outdoor areas.

The incidence value means that for every 100,000 inhabitants, 75 people were infected within seven days.

From an incidence of 50, the restaurants and cafés should also be allowed to offer tables inside, according to Dehoga paper, from 35 pubs and from 20 clubs and discos should be allowed to open.

Other factors such as the vaccination rate should also be taken into account.

Dehoga NRW spokesman Hellwig complains that the state aid is paid out very late - his industry has still not received all of the support for November.

"The liquidity of the companies is decreasing day by day," said the industry representative.

If the lockdown went on for a long time, a third of the hospitality industry would file for bankruptcy.

As of June 2020, the hotel and catering industry in North Rhine-Westphalia had around 360,000 employees; this number included permanent employees and mini-jobbers.
