Police officers, employees in retail and local transport are also in personal contact with many people every day.
They should therefore be given a higher priority in the federal vaccination strategy and “be vaccinated as soon as possible,” Muscheid told the German Press Agency on Tuesday.
The state association of the education and science union (GEW) also called for a vaccination offer for educators at day-care centers on Tuesday.
Only then will the daycare centers in Rhineland-Palatinate be able to open again, said the deputy GEW state chairwoman Kathrin Gröning on Tuesday.
"It would be irresponsible to expose employees, parents and children to this high health risk."
