Hamburg (dpa) - Hamburg's First Mayor Peter Tschentscher has spoken out in favor of extending the lockdown and called for a uniform approach.

“There should only be opening steps when the influence of the mutations on the infection process can be assessed.

That is currently not the case, ”said the SPD politician to the editorial network Germany (Tuesday) before the next Corona switch of the federal and state governments on Wednesday.

Tschentscher appealed to his counterparts and the Chancellor to pull together at the switch on Wednesday.

The support for the corona restrictions is still high.

But many citizens expected a consistent and coordinated approach between the federal and state governments, "in order to prevent another relapse in the sense of a third wave after the current decline in the number of infections," said Tschentscher.

The lockdown to contain the corona pandemic is currently limited to February 14th.

On Wednesday, the federal government and the federal states want to consult with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) on how to proceed.
