February 09, 2021The second trial of impeachment oer Donald Trump opens today, for instigating an insurrection due to the events of the Congressional assault that took place last January 6.

It begins with 4 hours of debate on the constitutionality of this process.

To get to the heart of the initial arguments we will have to wait for Wednesday around 12, with 16 hours available for both managers and defense.

On Saturday there will be a break, as requested by Trump's lawyers to respect the Jewish Shabbat, and it will recover on Sunday.

The trial could be concluded by the middle of next week, in a time therefore halved compared to the first impeachment.

The accusation, conducted by the House managers, will aim at maximum emotional impact, recalling "the dramatic and compelling story" of how the former president instigated the January 6 insurrection, with the assault on Congress in which they are 5 people were killed.

On the other hand, Trump's legal team will instead focus on strictly legal arguments, centered on discussions on the constitutionality of an impeachment of a president no longer in office and on the scope and defense of the first amendment.

In short, two diametrically opposed processes, with the Democrats aiming at a simple message, easily digestible for the television audience.

And which will therefore allow the process to be quickly concluded - the outcome of which is taken for granted with a new acquittal of Trump - in order not to delay too long the ambitious legislative agenda of the nascent Biden administration, in particular the massive new package of anti Covid measures.

Managers will not need major reconstructions since they will find themselves in an unprecedented position to present the case in front of jurors, the 100 senators, who were also witnesses and victims of the assault on Congress.

And the trial will take place in one of the crime scenes, the Senate chamber that a little over a month ago was occupied and violated by Trump supporters, as shown by the hours of videos and the thousands of photos that are still imprinted in the mind of all Americans.

According to the indictment, the exhortation to "fight as if you were in hell" was not used "figuratively", as Trump's lawyers claim, but a real incitement and indication to storm Congress.

Dramatic videos will then be shown of insurgents chasing congressmen and senators in the corridors of Congress and attacking policemen, one of whom, Brian Sicknick, was killed.

An act of "political theater": this is how Donald Trump's defenders define the second impeachment trial in a brief memoir, where they argue the unconstitutionality of the proceedings against a president who has already fallen and deny that his meeting, protected by the first amendment of the constitution, aimed at inciting its fans to storm Congress.
