Kiel (dpa / lno) - The state chairman of the SPD in Schleswig-Holstein, Serpil Midyatli, is against easing corona protective measures in February.

The protection of health must have the highest priority, said Midyatli on Tuesday the German press agency.

Therefore, loosening could only be done carefully and gradually.

"But I can't imagine any area before March 1st."

An additional safety buffer is necessary to limit the spread of the mutations.

"To this end, the capacities for examining the virus variants must be expanded as quickly as possible," said Midyatli with a view to the Prime Minister's Conference with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) on Wednesday.

The decline in the number of infections shows that the protective measures are working.

"However, we have not yet reached the originally planned value of a seven-day incidence of below 50."

In view of the more contagious mutations, special care should be taken even if the incidence falls below the 50s.

"Opening all areas too quickly could very soon lead to a third wave."

In the north, the seven-day incidence - i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days - was 62.2 on Monday evening.

The current lockdown with largely closed schools, daycare centers, shops, restaurants and leisure facilities applies until Sunday.

It is eagerly awaited what the federal and state governments will decide for the time afterwards.

A plan by the state government provides for the first openings for daycare centers, schools and hairdressers, depending on the infection situation.
