Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The SPD opposition leader in the NRW state parliament, Thomas Kutschaty, has warned of “premature relaxation exercises” in the corona pandemic.

The numbers of new infections would give cause for hope.

Despite the positive trend, almost as many people have died in connection with the corona virus in North Rhine-Westphalia since the beginning of the year as in the entire previous year, said Kutschaty on Tuesday in a special session of the state parliament.

The pandemic will only end with a nationwide vaccination.

But there is currently far too little vaccine.

The SPD parliamentary group leader warned against too high expectations of the federal-state consultations with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU).

"This body cannot meet these expectations."

On Wednesday, the heads of government of the federal states discussed the further course with Merkel in a video conference.

Kutschaty reiterated the SPD's call for a step-by-step plan that had to offer people a clear perspective on which measures apply to which infection situation.

"So people can live with measures because they don't have to wait eagerly every 14 days for the one summit to find out what applies then."
