London (AP) - Great joy among the Royals: Queen granddaughter Princess Eugenie (30) has become the mother of a boy.

The Buckingham Palace announced on Tuesday in London.

Mother and baby are both doing well, the message said.

Father Jack Brooksbank (35) was present at the birth in Portland Hospital in the British capital on Tuesday morning.

It is the couple's first child.

Queen Elizabeth (94), her husband Prince Philip (99) and Eugenie's parents, Sarah Ferguson (61) and Prince Andrew (60), were "delighted," it said.

The name of the 3650 gram boy and whether he would receive a royal title was initially not known.

He is already the ninth great-grandson of the Queen and eleventh in line to the throne.

Eugenie posted a black and white photo on Instagram showing three hands - presumably her baby's, her own and dad Jack's.

The couple had married in Windsor in autumn 2018 - a few months after the dream wedding of Prince Harry (36) and Duchess Meghan (39) - only on a much smaller scale.

Eugenie had gained a lot of sympathy at the time by being open about an illness that had left a lifelong scar on her back.

Her dress was cut wide at the back so that the traces of a spinal surgery from her childhood could be clearly seen.

Unlike Harry, Eugenie never had an official role in the royal family.

She and her sister Princess Beatrice (32) attracted attention in earlier years with their daring hat fashion.

Beatrice had secretly married her fiancé Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi last summer.
