Wiesbaden (dpa / lhe) - After extended deadlines in the corona pandemic for the mandatory preventive medical examinations of children, postponement is no longer possible from April.

Then the regular reporting deadlines apply again, as Social Minister Kai Klose (Greens) announced in Wiesbaden.

In the past few months it was possible, under certain conditions, to postpone examinations U7 to U9 (21 months to 5 years) by a maximum of three months.

According to the ministry, reasons for a pandemic-related delay were, for example, hygiene procedures that had to be reorganized in the doctor’s practice, or individual challenges in organizing family life.

From newborns to five years of age, legal guardians in Hessen must ensure that children are examined by a pediatrician within a certain period of time.

If the doctor's visit does not take place even after a reminder has been sent, the youth welfare office will be informed.

"Due to the almost complete absence of the otherwise seasonally customary number of illnesses for acute infections, it is possible nationwide to carry out the children's preliminary examinations in good time," explained the chairman of the regional association of paediatricians, Ralf Moebus.
