Munich (dpa / lby) - After more and more Bavarian municipalities are discussing the requirement to be present at municipal and city council meetings, the coalition in Munich wants to change the regulations quickly.

As the government factions of the CSU and Free Voters reported on Tuesday, a corresponding draft law should now be put into effect as soon as possible before Easter.

In this way, the local councils could in future also take part in the committee meetings via online video conference.

So far this has been banned in Bavaria.

The change to the municipal code and other municipal laws should initially apply until the end of 2022.

Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) said that the topic had been discussed more intensively in the municipalities since the second lockdown at the end of 2020.

With the new law, the local politicians should now be made a new offer - but there is no requirement.

"It goes without saying that a municipal council still has the right to say no, we meet in full," emphasized the minister.
