Iraqi security sources reported that five Iraqis accused of "terrorism" were executed yesterday in Nasiriyah prison in southern Iraq, and 24 ISIS militants were arrested, while the advisor to the Iraqi prime minister, Abdul Hussein Al-Hindawi, stated that the role of the United Nations in the elections is to monitor and not supervise.

The Iraqi judiciary obtained an order to carry out death sentences for the five defendants, which was approved by the Presidency of the Republic, which is a necessary step.

In the same context, the Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced yesterday that the security forces managed to arrest 24 ISIS members in Anbar Governorate, in western Iraq.

On its Facebook page, the ministry stated, “By following up the ISIS terrorist gang members and their movements, and intensifying the intelligence effort for the past 30 days, the detachments of the Intelligence Agency, represented by the Anbar Intelligence and Counter-Terrorism Directorate in the Ministry of Interior, were able to arrest 24 wanted terrorists. According to the provisions of the Terrorism Act ».

She added that the detainees are accused of belonging to ISIS and working within the so-called Anbar and Fallujah sectors of the organization.

The arrest took place in accordance with warrants and judicial orders in separate areas of the governorate, and their statements were recorded in confession, and legal measures were taken against them.

On the other hand, Abdul-Hussein Al-Hindawi confirmed yesterday that the role of the United Nations in the elections scheduled for next October will be monitoring, not supervision.

He told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the role of the United Nations in the elections is to monitor through evaluation and not to supervise," indicating that "it does not interfere in the electoral process, nor in its administration."

He added that «the Iraqis are the ones who manage the elections in all its stages», pointing out that «the reference talked about the supervision of the United Nations and monitoring the elections, but in practice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requested monitoring only».
