Bottrop (dpa / lnw) - Two people were injured in a fire in a retirement home in Bottrop on Tuesday evening.

The fire broke out in a resident's room for reasons that are still unclear, as the fire brigade announced.

When the emergency services arrived, an employee of the home had brought the resident to safety - and closed the door to the fire room.

Both women were treated with smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital.

The fire was quickly brought under control, it said.

30 other residents had to leave their rooms during the operation, but were able to return later.

"Thanks to the quick reaction of the employees of the retirement home, there were no more injuries," the fire brigade said.
