09 February 2021The joint work in China of the WHO and Beijing team of experts "is finished" and now the work to trace the origin of Covid-19 will proceed to the rest of the world and "will not be bound to any location".

This is what Lian Wannian, head of the delegation of 17 Chinese experts who joined that of 17 WHO international scientists, from 10 different countries, said in the opening bars of the final press conference of the WHO mission in Wuhan.

Lian also added that China supports "the work and action of the WHO".

Lian added that "there are no substantial traces of the spread of the coronavirus in China before the end of 2019. And there is no evidence that it circulated in Wuhan before December 2019".



Laboratory leaks: unlikely


On the hypothesis of a virus escape from a laboratory, the WHO head of mission in Wuhan, Peter Ben Embarek, speaks of "unlikely scenarios".

Embarek also "recommended" for the future not to continue "research" in the direction of a Codiv escape from the Wuhan laboratory.



The situation in China


No new locally transmitted Covid-19 infections were reported yesterday in mainland China, where another 14 confirmed cases from abroad and 15 asymptomatic were recorded.

This was announced in today's bulletin of the Chinese National Health Commission.

Among the new cases imported from abroad, 7 were reported in Guangdong, 2 in Shanghai and one each in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Shandong and Sichuan.

No further coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours in mainland China.

A new suspected case from abroad was instead reported yesterday in Shanghai.

Another 75 positive patients were discharged from various Chinese hospitals yesterday after recovering.

As of yesterday evening, Mainland China had recorded a total of 4,818 cases of infection from other countries.

Of these, 4,546 have already been discharged from various hospitals after being healed and 272 are still hospitalized.

There are no deaths to report among the coronavirus positive cases that arrived in China from abroad.  



The situation in Hong Kong


Since yesterday evening, the Chinese Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong had recorded 10,667 confirmed cases of contagion, including 186 deaths, while 48 were confirmed of infection had been reported in the Macao Special Administrative Region and 928 in Taiwan. where 9 patients died from the disease.

In total, 9,918 infected had been discharged from hospitals in Hong Kong after recovering, in addition to 46 in Macau and 848 in Taiwan.
