Los Angeles (AP) - Stars like Miley Cyrus, Sarah Jessica Parker or the comedian Bette Midler have shown solidarity with US singer Britney Spears.

After the “New York Times” documentary “Framing Britney Spears” was published, the subject of Spears' guardianship held by her father, Jamie Spears, has gained popularity again, especially on social networks.

In the film, the background to the dispute over guardianship over the musician ("... Baby One More Time") is taken up in detail.

"We love Britney," said singer Miley Cyrus during her performance before the Super Bowl over the weekend.

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker and Bette Midler picked up the popular hashtag #FreeBritney in posts on Twitter, which was launched by Britney fans in 2019.

The Free Britney movement accuses Jamie Spears of continuing to manage his daughter's assets and career against the wishes of his daughter.

Britney Spears has lived under her father's legal guardianship since 2008.

In this role he has decision-making power over business and financial matters.

In the meantime, the 39-year-old has expressed the wish that someone other than her father take over the position of guardian.

But neither her father nor the court have so far responded to this request.

The proceedings are still ongoing.

Britney Spears' partner Sam Asghari has now spoken out: "I have only ever wanted the best for my better half and will continue to support her in following her dreams and creating the future she desires and deserves", he told the US celebrity magazine “People”.

"I am grateful for all the love and support she receives from her fans around the world, and I look forward to a normal, wonderful future together."

Spears and Asghari have been a couple since 2016.
