Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The 13 parties and associations represented a wide range of political offers in the state elections on March 14th.

Since hardly anyone likes to read all the election programs, there will be another “Wahl-O-Mat” from Wednesday to check their own voting preferences: Using 38 theses, voters can find out which party suits them best.

"At a time when street election campaigns are hardly possible, the" Wahl-O-Mat "is particularly important," said the deputy director of the state center for political education, Sarah Scholl-Schneider.

For the selection of the theses, an editorial team from the state and federal agency for political education came together with 15 adolescents and young adults from all over Rhineland-Palatinate, who were selected from 50 applications.

"This gave us different perspectives on regional political issues," said Scholl-Schneider in an interview with the German press agency.

In the end, 80 theses were sent to the parties with the request to give reasons for approval or rejection.

In the end, 38 theses were selected on which the parties hold opposing positions.

"It is the goal of the" Wahl-O-Mats "to make the differentiation of the parties clear," explains Scholl-Schneider.

The cooperation of the parties was very good.

"Smaller parties in particular see the Internet application as an opportunity to be perceived at all."

In the state elections in 2016, more than 716 737 people used the “Wahl-O-Mat” for Rhineland-Palatinate.

That was more than twice as many as in 2011. The resulting data is not saved - the “Wahl-O-Mat” is not an opinion poll.
