Washington (AP) - US President Joe Biden believes that the Olympic Games in Tokyo can only be held with the approval of science.
"I hope it's possible, but we'll have to wait and see," Biden told Westwood One radio station.
He has great compassion for the Olympic athletes.
«They are the people for whom it pains me so much.
But we have to do it on the basis of research, ”said the 78-year-old.
Because of the corona pandemic, the summer games planned for 2020 had been postponed by a year.
The Japanese hosts and the International Olympic Committee have recently confirmed that they want to hold onto the games despite the further worrying corona situation in many countries and the fear of virus mutations.

Biden said he had spoken to Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.
This is working hard to be able to open the Tokyo Games safely.
"I pray that it will be so," said the US president.
"Imagine all these Olympians working four years, four years for an opportunity - and suddenly that opportunity disappears," said Biden.
But his government is guided by scientific guidelines.
