Paco Sanz

two years in prison

at the beginning of the trial that is held at the Provincial Court of Madrid, after reaching an agreement with the

Prosecutor's Office

in which he acknowledges having defrauded thousands of people simulating a terminal illness.

At the beginning of the trial, the defense of Paco Sanz and the Prosecutor's Office have negotiated a conformity and have finally reached an agreement on criminal matters but not on the

civil liability

of each of those affected.

Thus, the Prosecutor's Office has lowered its prison request for Paco Sanz from six years in prison to two, and for the one who was his girlfriend at the time of the fraud from three years in prison to one year and nine months.

Therefore, in the trial, only the possible civil liability of the defendants will be resolved, as the parties have agreed at the beginning of the session.

The accusations have adhered to the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office.

PLAN TO SCAM

The Prosecutor's Office indicates in its provisional conclusions that Paco Sanz, pretending that he had only a few months to live, managed to collect 264,780 euros in seven years.

He did this by asking for financial aid through social networks, television and other media to try to get an

experimental treatment in the United States

, because in Spain there was no such thing as a disease that actually had no imminent life risk, adds the letter. of accusation.

He explains that in 2009 he was diagnosed

with Cowden syndrome

, a disease of genetic origin among those classified as rare and characterized by the appearance of benign tumors.

The defendant was granted absolute incapacity to work due to common illness and was awarded a pension of 745 euros.

The Public Prosecutor's Office reports that, taking advantage of his illness, Paco Sanz hatched a plan to obtain an illicit financial profit between 2010 and 2017. During that time he made the networks and the media believe that his illness was much more serious than it really was and that the only way to save himself was to carry out an experimental treatment in the United States.

Under the pretext of financing this alleged treatment, in 2010 he created the website www.ayudapacosanz.com in which he exaggerated the symptoms of his disease, stating that he suffered from genetic cancer or that he had only a few months to live to move people who have access to such information.

Some of them donated funds to him in the belief that they would be used to finance the alleged treatment in the United States, which was actually a

free experimental trial

.

Along with appeals to charity Paco Sanz contributed his bank account number in which he and his mother appeared as holders and even gave the possibility of donating money by sending a solidarity text message at a cost of 1.45 euros or in his Paypal account, and he also had profiles open on social networks for his campaign.

"Said maneuvers managed to sensitize many groups and individuals, contacting the accused with actors and television presenters who echoed his illness and who selflessly spread messages of the need for financial aid through social networks," adds the Prosecutor's Office.

In addition, actors and presenters gave him donations and organized

charity galas

to raise funds and in one held in Valencia in 2013, in which renowned artists participated altruistically, 3,000 euros were collected and delivered to the accused.
