Aichhalden-Rötenberg (dpa / lsw) - It is a common procedure, but it does not sound safe: If a truck cannot approach a hall, for example because it is too steep, the trailer has to be maneuvered there with a forklift.

This is what happened on Monday morning in Rötenberg (Rottweil district): A 53-year-old forklift driver attached the trailer device to his vehicle and pulled the trailer, which weighed tons, backwards down the mountain, as the police announced in the evening.

But then the trailer came loose and overturned the forklift.

The driver was not wearing seat belts, was thrown out and got under the cab of the truck.

The 53-year-old died at the scene of the accident.

An expert should now clarify whether the trailer was possibly not properly attached.

The police ruled out any third-party debt.
