The commander-in-chief of the Myanmar National Defense Forces expressed willingness to develop friendly cooperation with the international community

Xinhua News Agency, Yangon, February 8 (Reporter Che Hongliang and Zhang Dongqiang) In a televised speech on the evening of the 8th, the commander-in-chief of the Myanmar National Defense Forces Min Aung Lai said that Myanmar is willing to develop friendly cooperation with the international community.

Min Aung Lai’s speech on military television mainly involved Myanmar’s general election in November last year, epidemic prevention and control, economic boost, domestic peace process, and elections after the state of emergency ended.

Min Aung Lai said that Myanmar will continue to implement existing diplomatic, administrative and economic policies, and Myanmar welcomes foreign investment.

This is the first time that Min Anglai made a public speech after taking over state power on February 1.

The Myanmar military issued a statement on the 8th, calling on the people to maintain national stability.

Demonstrations and protests have erupted throughout Myanmar for several days. The protesters' demands include the release of the detained Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.

Myanmar President Win Myint, Aung San Suu Kyi and some senior officials of the National League for Democracy (NLD) were detained by the military in the early morning of February 1.

The Myanmar military subsequently declared a one-year state of emergency, and national power was transferred to the commander-in-chief of the National Defense Forces.

Myanmar held federal parliamentary elections in November last year, and the Democratic League won more than half of the federal parliamentary seats.

Recently, the Burmese military and NLD have diverged over the result of the general election.

The military believed that there was fraud in the general election and asked the Election Commission to investigate and postpone the convening of a new Federal Parliament meeting, but was rejected.
