Tübingen (dpa / lsw) - The city of Tübingen is starting an offensive for corona rapid tests at daycare centers and schools with training courses.

This week, teaching and daycare staff will be trained, as Tübingen's Mayor Boris Palmer (Greens) and emergency doctor Lisa Federle announced on Monday.

From next week on, kindergarten teachers will be tested twice a week.

Schools should really get going after the carnival holidays.

Anyone who does not trust themselves to test will receive an offer to have free quick tests done at the so-called doctor's mobile on the Tübingen market square.

Palmer said: "If we manage to regularly use rapid tests to ensure that no hotspot develops in the care and educational facilities, then it is responsible to open it."

The tests in which a cotton swab is inserted into the nose are not yet certified for laypeople.

However, this should be possible as soon as possible.

Palmer said that in Germany people often stand in the way of “bureaucracy”.

"I take full responsibility for fighting this pandemic pragmatically and sensibly and not waiting for lawyers and TÜV inspectors."

The seven-day incidence in the Tübingen district is currently 31 per 100,000 inhabitants. The state government also wants to expand tests at daycare centers and schools - with initially two rapid tests per week until Easter.
