There has been a lot to stand for for dietitians, principals and school canteen staff during the corona pandemic.

Serving food to hundreds of students in an infectious environment without creating congestion has been a challenge.

But in Karlstad, the picture from the dieticians is that the work has worked well.

- It has been a bit tricky to reduce congestion, but we have done the work we have done with the principals, says Caroline Häggqvist, dietitian for area east in Karlstad's primary schools.

High sickness absence

Another of the biggest problems that has existed is staffing, as sick leave has sometimes been high.

But more generous opening hours and fewer students in the canteens have also had positive effects.

According to the dietitians, many students state that they have a calmer meal environment thanks to the changes.

Harder to plan

As for the supply of food in schools, it is largely unchanged since before the corona pandemic.

However, it has become more difficult to plan the number of portions due to varying absences.

In the clip above, Caroline Häggqvist tells more about how the corona pandemic has affected school meals.
