Putgarten (dpa / lmv) - After several vehicles got stuck on the island of Rügen because of snow drifts on Monday night, the police advised against driving in the direction of Cape Arkona.

The road was clear again, but you should still avoid unnecessary journeys, the police said on Monday.

The winter service is in continuous use.

The tourism company Kap Arkona reported on its Facebook page about hours of rescue operations carried out by several fire departments on Monday night.

Several people were released from stuck cars.

Farmers would have cleared the streets with snow blowers, among other things.

The districts of Putgarten could not be reached in the meantime.

According to the police, three vehicles got stuck.

The media also reported that a fire engine got stuck.

Strong easterly winds and low temperatures had caused snow drifts on the weekend, especially on Rügen.

In the northeast it should stay cold for the next few days.

More snowfall is also expected.
