Schleifreisen (dpa / th) - In winter weather conditions, there were sometimes massive traffic obstructions on the streets of Thuringia on Monday.

A spokeswoman for the motorway police said that trucks were parked or broken down, especially on the motorways.

In contrast, there were no major accidents.

Numerous motorways and federal highways were affected.

In some cases, drivers had to wait a long time before they could drive past the obstacles.

On the Autobahn 4 near Gera, rows and rows of trucks got stuck in snowdrifts during the night.

In the right lane in the direction of Frankfurt am Main, a kilometer-long traffic jam formed, as the police announced.

Towing services and clearing vehicles had to free the trucks.

The traffic could continue to flow in the remaining lanes.

Stuck vehicles on the A 9 also caused traffic jams and obstructions.

Numerous entrances and exits had to be closed because trucks were broken down there.

The clearance services also had difficulties clearing snow from the roadways on the federal and state roads.

Sometimes even the winter service vehicles fell by the wayside: in the Altenburger Land district, four of them slipped into the ditch.

Farmers rushed to the rescue with tractors.

In the Sömmerda district, a family of three was hit particularly hard.

On the night of Monday, according to the police, their vehicle stopped between Schallenburg and Kranichborn and could not continue.

According to their own statements, the family tried for five hours to clear the car from the snow before they called the emergency number.
