Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The number of new corona infections per 100,000 inhabitants within a week is approaching the important threshold of 50 in Baden-Württemberg. The so-called 7-day incidence nationwide was 59.2, as the regional council Stuttgart announced on Monday evening.

Compared to the previous day, however, this is only a minus of 1.2.

The goal of politics is to reduce the number of new infections nationwide to below 50 per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days - only then will the health authorities be able to trace all contact persons, it is said.

The number of new corona infections has been leveling off across the country for almost five weeks.

For comparison: Before Christmas it was over 200. On Wednesday, the Prime Ministers want to discuss with Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) how things should go after the lockdown, which is limited to Sunday.

There are now 18 urban and rural districts under 50 in the southwest. For the first time since October 10, the state capital Stuttgart has also fallen below this threshold with 48.6.

But four urban and rural districts in Baden-Württemberg are over 100: the Hohenlohe district (130.5), Heilbronn (115.3), the district of Calw (105.5) and the district of Waldshut (103.5).

The number of infections with the coronavirus has increased by 391 to 300,966 confirmed cases.

The number of deaths increased by 80 to 7,484. 272,623 people are considered recovered, 1023 more than the previous day.

The information on those who have recovered are estimates.

According to the intensive care register of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine (Divi), 340 corona patients in Baden-Württemberg were in intensive care units, 201 of them artificially ventilated.

Around 84 percent of the 2,431 operable intensive care beds are occupied, it said.

286,324 people in the southwest received their first vaccination against the coronavirus.

106,670 people have been vaccinated for the second time.

That was 6337 (first vaccination) and 3603 (second vaccination) more than the day before.

Because there is currently a lack of vaccine, fewer people are being vaccinated.
