08 February 2021 The 5-star Movement brought together parliamentarians in the evening in a joint assembly of the House and Senate groups to take stock of the first round of consultations with the appointed Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

Giuseppe Conte's was the most awaited voice of the meeting: he confirms his support for the former governor and designs his own future, within the movement:

"It was Draghi who laid the foundations for overcoming the austerity policies, he is an interlocutor to be taken into serious consideration. Of course, some of you might have thought that the task could go to another: but now we have to deal with the reality of this historical phase ".

"We have a mission, we are the tip of the balance, we are the relative majority party that must make its weight felt" added the outgoing premier and on his hypothetical role in the next government Draghi is shy: "even Grillo has said generously: we feel guaranteed if you will still be in government. But it would be wrong ".

Conte then invited the Movement to draw a difference between the allies who have shown themselves to be "loyal" (implied Pd and Leu), and those who "have turned their backs" and now try to "take advantage" of the political situation (implied the League of Matteo Salvini).

The objective of the assembly was to contain the 'frond' of those opposed to supporting an executive led by Draghi, a fairly large group especially in Palazzo Madama, where there are about twenty senators who have already spoken out openly.

The second round of consultations is therefore expected (the meeting with the pentastellated leaders is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon), in which the prime minister in charge should illustrate the government program.

After that, the Movement should entrust the final decision to the vote of the members, on the Rousseau platform (moreover already convened on the 9th and 10th for the changes to the statute necessary to kick off the new internal organization).

As expected among the most critical, senators Barbara Lezzi and Danilo Toninelli.

If he supports the Draghi government, the Movement "will commit suicide", said the former minister for the South. While the former owner of Infrastructures argued that it is better for him to be in opposition than in government with Forza Italia.
