Dresden (dpa / sn) - The British variant of the corona virus continues to spread in the Ore Mountains.

As the district office announced on Monday, four new cases of this mutation were detected.

According to the district office, a person with a proven mutation died in connection with a Covid 19 disease.

A total of five corona mutations of the British variant have been registered in the Ore Mountains so far.

This virus variant has also been detected in several other places in Saxony - for example in Vogtland and in the Zwickau district.

The virus variant B.1.351, which is circulating in South Africa, has so far only been detected in Leipzig.

According to previous knowledge, the highly contagious virus variants apparently spread faster than the virus previously.

The Ministry of Health and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported a value of around 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days for Saxony.

Nationwide, the value is significantly lower at 76.
