Doha (AP) - FC Bayern wants to continue its furious title hunt with a piece of football history.

As the first German club - and, as internationally so far, only FC Barcelona in 2009 - the Munich-based club want to round off their title this week by winning the Club World Cup.

"It is a great opportunity for us to win the sixth title within a year," said international player Joshua Kimmich.

The opponent in the semifinals is Egypt's record champions Al Ahly (7:00 p.m. / DAZN and Bild Live).

The final will take place on Thursday.

INITIAL SITUATION: Coach Hansi Flick was “not exactly amused” because of the travel delay caused by a refused take-off clearance at Berlin airport.

But that shouldn't disturb the title project.

“We won't make any apologies here.

We have big goals, ”said the 55-year-old.

A win against the top club from Cairo - and another on Thursday - would also ease the anger of club bosses Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß about the delayed arrival from the Bundesliga game in Berlin to Doha.

FAVORIT BAYERN: The Champions League winner is usually the favorite in the duel between the continental winners.

Defending champion is Liverpool FC, record winner Real Madrid with four successes.

“I am convinced that the Champions League winner will always go into the tournament as the favorite.

We have to live up to this role, ”said Kimmich.

SEMI-FINAL OPPONENTS WITH SUPER NUMBERS: Al Ahly is the record champion in Egypt with 42 titles, most recently five national successes in a row.

There are also 37 cup wins.

With nine successes in the CAF Champions League, the Cairo club is also the record champion in Africa's continental club competition.

«We have won three titles and are now in the semi-finals.

We are a good team and are now where every African team would like to be », said coach Pitso Mosimane in Doha.

For Kimmich, the opponent is “FC Bayern from Egypt”.

Al Ahly made it to the semi-finals with a 1-0 win against Al-Duhail SC from Qatar.

LIKE BARCELONA: The triple of championship, cup and Champions League won the Munich team, plus the Supercups in Germany and Europe.

Like FC Barcelona in 2009 under the later Bayern coach Pep Guardiola, a six-time title win is now expected.

“We are competing at the Club World Cup with the clear goal of bringing the World Cup to Munich.

Our team and Hansi Flick attach great importance to this title, ”said CEO Rummenigge.

LIKE 2013: More than seven years ago, the Munich team won the tournament in December 2013 in Morocco.

In the final against Raja Casablanca, Dante and Thiago scored the Munich goals.

Manuel Neuer, Jérôme Boateng, David Alaba, Thomas Müller and Javi Martínez can and want to repeat their success from back then.

FINANCE: There is five million dollars (around 4.15 million euros) for the winner of the Club World Cup, a lot of prize money in Corona times.

«In the current situation in particular, it would be nice if Bayern could win this prize money.

But even more than the finances, we are concerned with the sporting status, ”said Rummenigge.
