One of these wild markets, at La Paillade -

SG

Sunday, a new operation of the national police and the municipal police allowed to dismantle a wild market, in the district of Paillade, in Montpellier (Hérault).

According to the services of the prefecture, more than four tons of fruit and vegetables, sold illegally, were seized and handed over to the Food Bank.

In addition, nearly 1.5 tonnes of non-food products were recovered.

This is not the first time that such an operation has taken place in the neighborhood: since last summer, several illegal fruit and vegetable markets have been dismantled.

"They have made a clientele"

On January 24, three people suspected of illegally selling products and two others suspected of selling contraband cigarettes were arrested at La Paillade: 250 packs of cigarettes and the sum of 2,600 euros and 3.3 tons of foodstuffs had been seized, and food still fit for consumption was donated to the Food Bank.

For several years, illegal markets of this type have plagued traders in the Paillade district.

“In three years, they have acquired a clientele, explained last September to

20 Minutes

Stéphane Gayraud, market gardener and representative of market traders.

They sometimes have more people outside than us, inside.

We cannot imagine, if we do not see it, the number of people who buy in these wild markets… We pay rents and charges.

I had an employee on the weekend, unfortunately I had to stop her.
