Bitterfeld-Wolfen (dpa / sa) - A decade after the crisis in the German solar industry, the “Solar Valley” industrial park in Bitterfeld-Wolfen is almost completely occupied again.

If all the settlements were implemented as planned, 5 of 360 hectares would still be freely available, said Elena Herzel from the economic development agency of the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district of the German Press Agency.

After the bankruptcy wave of solar manufacturers from 2012, up to 80 percent of the space was free.

Today there is a colorful mix in the "Solar Valley" with a focus on sustainability and renewable energies.

Most recently, the US-Chinese manufacturer of e-car batteries announced that they wanted to locate their European headquarters and production facilities in the industrial park.

In addition, the Swiss company Meyer Burger wants to revive the halls of the bankrupt solar manufacturer Sovello and start production there from the second quarter.

The "Solar Valley" was created 20 years ago and was one of the largest centers of the solar industry in Europe.

Numerous companies settled here, and there were up to 3500 jobs.

Then the competition for cheap solar modules from Asia caused the crisis and numerous companies went bankrupt.
