Domestic scientists have allowed Russia to take a leading position in the creation of vaccines against the coronavirus infection COVID-19.

This was stated by President Vladimir Putin during a meeting of the Council for Science and Education.

“Thanks to our scientists, Russia occupies a leading position in the world - I will not say anything unexpected and new now, we all know about this - in the creation of a vaccine against coronavirus.

Moreover, we are the only country that already has three vaccines of our own, domestic development.

Without any doubt, this is a major scientific success, ”Putin said.

The head of state emphasized that Russia managed not only to create vaccines, but also to organize their production, as well as to start mass vaccination of the country's population.

Recall that on August 11, 2020, Russia was the first in the world to register the Sputnik V vaccine against coronavirus infection, which was developed by specialists from the National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Honorary Academician N.F.

Kirill Dmitriev, director general of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, noted that the EU regulator may decide to register Sputnik V in March.

At the same time, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell expressed the hope that the EMA would allow the use of the Russian vaccine in the EU.

The development efficiency of the Gamaleya Center was 91.6% based on the analysis of data from nearly 20,000 volunteers.
