The users saw nothing but fire.

On Saturday, twenty-one employees from ten of the eleven waste reception centers in the Lille metropolitan area went on strike.

But the waste reception centers still remained open because the management called on staff to replace the strikers.

Still, the anger is still alive three weeks after the violent assault to which three employees of the Tourcoing waste reception center were victims.

Worried about their safety, the employees want Esterra, which manages the waste reception centers in the Lille metropolitan area, to take strong measures.

“Cameras aren't much use.

The management also tells us that they have held anti-aggression meetings.

It's good but it's not much use.

The only thing that was done was to put a sign at the entrance to the waste reception centers to say that the staff should not be attacked.

It is insufficient.

We are also told of an anti-aggression button that would be linked to the police station.

For us, it is perlinpinpin powder because we already have the telephone to notify the police, ”said a CFDT union representative.

Back-up dog handlers?

To find a little serenity, the unions are now asking for the hiring of dog handlers in the city's waste reception centers where attacks are the most numerous.

“It had been done a few years ago and the aggressions had dropped a little because the dog handler dissuades people who want to fight.

But it costs money, ”continues the trade unionist.

While staff and management agree that there are safety concerns, opinions differ on how to remedy them.

The strike was not renewed, but the unions are considering other actions soon to maintain the pressure and succeed in their demands.
