China News Service, February 7th. According to a comprehensive report by the Canadian "Sing Tao Daily", the Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada (IRCC) stated that if their temporary residency rights are about to expire, they can Apply to extend the period of stay in Canada.

Temporary residents who cannot leave Canada due to the restrictions of the new crown epidemic can apply for an extension of their residency.

Their application must explain why they need to stay in Canada.

IRCC stated that applicants must apply online and meet relevant requirements, including payment of biometric fees.

IRCC emphasizes that applicants should apply before the expiration of their temporary resident status.

Those who are applying for an extension will be allowed to stay in Canada until their application is approved.

This means that IRCC does not need to expedite these applicants.

If the applicant’s residency status has expired, temporary residents can apply for restoration within 90 days after the expiration of their status, but they must pay the relevant application and restoration fees.

In order to be eligible for restoration, foreign citizens must have lived in Canada with a valid temporary status from January 30, 2020 to May 31, 2021, and lost their status during this period.

They also need to stay in Canada since their first entry, and pay a handling fee of 200 Canadian dollars.

If the applicant is eligible for restoration, the immigration officer will evaluate the application. If all the requirements are met, the border officer will issue a visitor visa or appropriate permit, and then send the documents to the applicant.

However, if the applicant does not meet the relevant restoration conditions, he will face three possible outcomes: proceeding to an entry qualification hearing, issuing a departure order, or allowing the continued residence in Canada.
