Waren (dpa / mv) - Despite numerous warnings from the police and authorities, many ice enthusiasts used the ice rinks on the Müritz and Kölpinsee in Waren at the weekend.

At minus six degrees, skaters ran for kilometers over the Kölpinsee on Sunday, which is a hundred meters very flat in many areas of the shore.

On Saturday when the sun was out there were up to 60 ice hikers at one time.

Ice collapses or other incidents were not reported until noon on Sunday, a police spokesman said.

Ice cream enthusiasts also used the up to eight centimeters thick ice cream in goods at the cow trough, where it is also very flat, and did their laps in front of the old town.

Because the strong east wind broke the ice in the middle of the Binnenmüritz, the water was only about 200 meters further.

On Saturday, the storm had pushed all the ice from the east to the west bank at Klink on the large Außenmüritz.

The Müritz rarely freezes over because of the large water surface of 117 square kilometers and the strong water movements during storms.

The sea eagles also took advantage of the icy weather.

At the water holes on the Kölpinsee, where the Blessrallen and other waterfowl gather, the eagles hunted prey in groups.
