Berlin / Stendal (dpa / sa) - According to the FDP member of the Bundestag, Marcus Faber, the federal government and the railway are not investing enough in the accessibility of train stations in Saxony-Anhalt.

Almost 90 percent of the 286 traffic stations are not completely barrier-free, said the Stendal, citing a response from the federal government to a request from the FDP parliamentary group.

Nevertheless, Saxony-Anhalt does not appear in a new investment program of the federal government with this focus.

“This is a situation that is no longer acceptable for commuters,” says Faber.

Specifically, it is about a so-called thousand station program, with which the federal government will initially make 111 small stations more attractive and barrier-free over the next five years.

Of the planned 300 million euros, 155 million euros will go to Bavaria, as can be seen from the response of the federal government to the FDP request.

The rest is spread across eleven federal states.

While in Thuringia the train station in Nordhausen and in Saxony the breakpoints in central Saxon Flöha and in Glauchau in the district of Zwickau are being beautified for a total of 4.6 million euros, Saxony-Anhalt is left with nothing.

According to the answer from the federal government, medium-sized train stations and reception halls should also benefit in further stages of the program.

It is currently open whether Saxony-Anhalt is better represented.

According to the federal government, the coordination with the federal states is still ongoing.

An earlier response from the federal government to an FDP request in November showed that 252 of the 286 train stations in Saxony-Anhalt are not yet completely accessible.

19 stations are to be added by 2025.

Barrier-free stations offer stepless entry to the platforms, elevators to the platforms, a guidance system and traveler information, including acoustic information, as announced by the federal government.
