Altenberg (dpa) - Francesco Friedrich can write another chapter in bobsleigh history this Sunday.

The double Olympic champion from BSC Sachsen Oberbärenburg could then become the sole record winner with his tenth world title, after the Italian Eugenio Monti also won nine world championship gold medals.

Before the two final races, Friedrich and his pusher Alexander Schüller have 0.88 seconds ahead of second-placed Johannes Lochner, who drives with Eric Franke.

World Cup debutant Hans-Peter Hannighofer with Christian Röder is also within reach of a medal.

The junior world championship duo is only ten hundredths of a second behind the third-placed Swiss Michael Vogt.
