Essen (dpa / lnw) - Before the expected severe onset of winter in parts of Germany, it is still unclear where exactly in North Rhine-Westphalia the storm will hit people.

The weather models still did not allow a reliable forecast, said meteorologist Ulrike Zenkner from the German Weather Service in Essen on Saturday morning.

It is expected that around noon on Saturday it will be possible to say more precisely where it will snow heavily.

In the afternoon it will then be clear in which parts of the country freezing rain could cause dangerously slippery roads.

What is certain is that it will primarily affect the north of the country in NRW.

The German Weather Service had already warned on Friday that massive obstacles in rail and road traffic could be expected at the weekend.

It should start on Saturday evening.

Within twelve hours, 15 to 25 centimeters of fresh snow must be expected.

40 centimeters are also not excluded.

With strong to stormy easterly winds, strong and sometimes extreme snow drifts are also to be expected.

The railway and the motorway maintenance authorities have prepared for numerous missions.
