Cologne (dpa) - With the flood on the Rhine, a slight deterioration is emerging in Cologne.

On Saturday morning, the water level fell slightly to 8.58 meters.

For Sunday and Monday, the waterways and shipping administration reckoned with a rising water level.

The provisional high could therefore be reached on Monday morning at just under 8.80 meters - the models do not go further.

Shipping traffic on the Rhine in Cologne was stopped on Thursday due to the flood.

Only when the water level is below 8.30 meters should the ships pass the section again.

In other NRW cities, shipping is only affected at significantly higher water levels.

Promenades and jetties have been flooded for days, and the water has also spilled into residential areas close to the river.

It's not really that dramatic yet, but various protective measures are taking effect.

In the village of Kasselberg, for example, footbridges have been set up.

For Cologne city center it only becomes dangerous when the water level is significantly higher than 11.30 meters.
