Cologne (dpa / lnw) - Cologne's Lord Mayor Henriette Reker pointed out the dangerous situation of the homeless in parts of Germany immediately before the heavy onset of winter expected.

«We have a few days ahead of us, some with severe frost.

For homeless people in Cologne it can be life-threatening », wrote the non-party town hall chief of the metropolis on Saturday evening on Twitter.

In Cologne nobody has to sleep on the street.

"Everyone affected has the opportunity to spend the night in an emergency shelter."

Reker appealed to passers-by who notice homeless people outside to inform the city.

The German Weather Service expects frosty nights with lows even in the Rhineland to minus 9 degrees at the beginning of the week.
