Hamburg / Schwerin / Kiel (dpa / lno) - In view of the forecast onset of winter at the weekend in Germany, Deutsche Bahn has made adjustments to the timetable.

Several long-distance connections in the north are also affected.

According to the company, all long-distance trains between Hamburg and Kiel, Hamburg and Lübeck and between Hamburg and Westerland will be canceled on Saturday and Sunday.

The connection between Hamburg and Rostock / Stralsund / Binz is also affected by the adjustments.

According to Deutsche Bahn, the timetable will be heavily thinned out at the weekend.

Only individual intercity trains run.

Affected passengers can either use booked tickets flexibly up to seven days after the end of the disruption or cancel them free of charge.

The German Weather Service (DWD) expects a weekend of extreme weather.

The meteorologists forecast a very rare borderline weather situation on Friday: snow storms and permafrost could occur in northern Germany, while in the south it could be spring-like warm.

It was said that there could be an “extreme storm” over Lower Saxony.

The DWD expects “considerable traffic disruptions” from the storm-like freezing rain and damage to nature from the ice break.
