The reigning world champion of the combined Alexis Pinturault leads the selection of the French team for the Alpine Skiing Worlds which begin Monday in Cortina d'Ampezzo (Italy) without the speed specialist Adrien Théaux, announced on Saturday the French Federation ski (FFS).

Adrien Théaux (36), bronze medalist in super-G in 2015, could have participated in his eighth consecutive World Championships, but was not selected.

The skier, who had seriously injured his right knee in January 2020, returned to competition in December, but has yet to regain his best level (at best a 14th place in super-G).

Blaise Giezendanner, 4th at the 2018 Olympic Games in super-G and Brice Roger, who injured his knee on Friday in Garmisch (Germany), are not part of the selection either.

The main hopes for medals will rest on the leader of the general classification Alexis Pinturault (super-G, combined, giant and slalom), the double world champion of giant Tessa Worley, the slalomeur Clément Noël and the descender Johan Clarey.

The French selection:

Women: Doriane Escané, Coralie Frasse-Sombet, Laura Gauché, Tiffany Gauthier, Tifany Roux, Nastasia Noens and Tessa Worley.

Men: Nils Allègre, Matthieu Bailet, Johan Clarey, Mathieu Faivre, Thibaut Favrot, Jean-Baptiste Grange, Victor Muffat-Jandet, Maxence Muzaton, Clément Noël and Alexis Pinturault.
