St. Leon-Rot (dpa / lsw) - Under the influence of drugs, a 46-year-old man caused several traffic accidents and initially fled.

The man struck a parked car with his vehicle in St. Leon-Rot (Rhein-Neckar-Kreis) on Friday, then stopped and fell asleep at the wheel, as a police spokesman announced on Saturday.

A witness tried unsuccessfully to wake the man and called the police and ambulance.

They saw envelopes with white powder residue and rolled banknotes on the passenger seat.

When the man came to and saw the helpers, he raced away in a snake line.

On the way, the 46-year-old bumped into the curb and caused damage in the grass verge as he came off the road.

He eventually had to be forcibly removed from the vehicle.

The police found a gram of amphetamine in his car.

The driver is now being investigated for road traffic hazard, escape from an accident and resistance to police officers.

He's lost his driver's license.
