Epfendorf (dpa / lsw) - Unknown thieves stole around 350 liters of diesel fuel from the tank of a parked truck in the Rottweil district without being noticed by the driver who was sleeping in the vehicle.
According to the police, several perpetrators probably broke the tank cap of the semi-trailer truck that was in a parking lot on Autobahn 81 near Epfendorf on Friday night.
The tank opening was right next to the driver's cab, explained a police spokesman: "Either the driver slept so deeply or they were extremely quiet."
The police assume that the thieves were "hosing off" the fuel: that is, they probably stuck a hose into the truck tank and benefited from the physical phenomenon that liquids from a container at a higher level could also be bent uphill into another container can flow without the need for a pump.
How exactly the perpetrators transported their stolen property from the crime scene was initially unclear.
The driver didn't notice until later that night that his fuel reserve light was blinking.
The stolen diesel was worth around 420 euros.
