It has been just over five years since Andreas Ehrnvall opened the gates to his first facility in Uppsala.

He got the idea during a trip to Marbella, Spain.

He was there as a tennis coach and came to test paddle for the first time.

- Somewhere the idea was born.

That it would be like this several years later, I could never have dreamed of, he says.

"Unique with this development"

The sport has grown strongly in recent times.

Throughout Sweden - so also in Uppsala.

Playing times, especially the attractive ones, end quickly.

RF Sisu Uppland - formerly Upplands Idrottsförbund - views the development positively.

- It is a bit unique to see this type of development that the paddle has.

There are a few examples of sports that have also had an incredible impact.

Then I think mainly of floorball and the Friskis & Svettis movement, says Dag Söderberg, district sports director.

"The need is great"

At the time of writing, there are nine halls or outdoor facilities that offer paddle in the Uppsala area.

There will be more.

Right now, two new halls are emerging in Östra Fyrislund.

A new business area where large properties are being built near the E4.

- The need for courses to play on in Uppsala is enormous.

The pressure on the existing courses is very hard, says Johan Wiklander who is one of the founders behind one of the companies that will expand its operations to Uppsala.

Is there no concern that the need is saturated and that it will not turn out as you had imagined?

- You are probably always a little worried that there will be too many courses, but at the same time we believe that the need is large enough in Uppsala.
