We will obviously have to wait a bit.

The project for a new school group for the République district, on the island of Nantes, was confirmed this Friday by the Nantes city council.

The objective is to build five kindergarten classes, as well as nine primary classes, for an opening by 2025.

Built on a plot south of Boulevard de l'Estuaire, near the future CHU, the new school will replace the Joséphine-Baker modular school open since November near Machines de l'île.

It will also keep the name of the Franco-American artist.

Work begins in 2023

But the interest of this establishment for the inhabitants also lies in its shared spaces.

The premises will thus integrate extracurricular rooms and a leisure center without accommodation "with a capacity of 48 children and 60 adults".

A multipurpose room will be built for the school and for the needs of associations in the neighborhood.

An outdoor sports ground, open to residents outside of school hours, will also be created.

Work will begin in 2023 in this sector with strong demographic growth.

Cost of the operation: nearly 16 million euros.
