Berlin (dpa) - Long jump world champion Malaika Mihambo and pole vault climber Torben Blech were the outstanding German athletes at the Istaf Indoor indoor meeting in Berlin.

The 27-year-old athlete from the LG Kurpfalz rose to 6.77 meters in her victory.

No other woman in the world has jumped that far this year.

In her success last weekend in Düsseldorf, she jumped 6.74 meters.

It wasn't enough for the first seven-meter set in the Olympic year in Berlin.

"I am happy.

You can see that it is going in the right direction, ”said Mihambo.

Maryna Bech-Romantschuk came second with 6.64 meters.

The Ukrainian had finished second behind Mihambo at the 2019 World Cup in Doha / Qatar.

Once again, the Leverkusen sheet demonstrated its top form and took second place behind the surprise winner John Ernest Obiena from the Philippines, who outstripped everyone with 5.80 meters.

At the Düsseldorf meeting, the 25-year-old sheet had improved his best performance by 18 centimeters to 5.86 meters.

Like Obiena, he jumped 5.80 meters in Berlin.

Former world champion Raphael Holzdeppe was the first jumper to pack his rods again.

The 31-year-old athlete from LAZ Zweibrücken could only overcome 5.42 meters and announced the end of his indoor season.

"Physically I'm in good shape, but my head is not fit, mentally I'm burned out," said Holzdeppe.

In the hurdles sprint, the American Aaron Mallet prevailed in the photo finish against the favored Olympic runner-up Orlando Ortega from Spain.

Both runners ran the 60 meters for 7.64 seconds.

Erik Balnuweit (VfL Wolfsburg) came third in 7.70 seconds.

In doing so, he undercut the norm for the European Indoor Championships in Torun / Poland at the beginning of March. In the women's hurdles, Christina Clemons from the USA was the first to cross the finish line in 7.83 seconds.

Second place went to Nadine Visser from the Netherlands in 7.90 seconds.
