Stendal (dpa / sa) - In the debate about early corona vaccinations for hundreds of police officers, the Stendal district has admitted errors.

"From a purely legal point of view, it should be noted that the interpretation of the vaccination ordinance made by the district at that time was incorrect," said Sebastian Stoll, who is responsible for the vaccination center there, on Friday afternoon, according to the announcement.

According to the announcement, Stoll and the Stendal District Administrator Patrick Puhlmann (SPD) had previously worked on the case.

Puhlmann announced that he would "examine the facts consistently and take appropriate measures as a result".

On Thursday, a request from left-wing MP Wulf Gallert triggered a heated debate in the state parliament.

In response to Gallert's question, Health Minister Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD) confirmed that the Stendal district had already vaccinated 320 police officers and employees against the corona virus in mid-January, although the professional group is not a top priority.

Since then, the Ministry of Health has received countless calls from angry citizens who have so far tried in vain to get an appointment for themselves or their relatives who are entitled to vaccinate because of the limited quota of vaccines, said Grimm-Benne on Friday.

He understands the anger of all those who have been waiting for a vaccination appointment for weeks, said District Administrator Puhlmann, according to the announcement.

He defended the circle's approach "despite all criticism".

When it became clear that the central appointment allocation was not sufficient, the district developed a master plan within a very short time to be able to offer large-scale immunization campaigns in the unit and association communities far away from the vaccination center.

The district had already announced on Thursday that the campaign was a test run to practice how a large number of people can be immunized in a short time.
