Munich (dpa / lby) - With the Corona crisis, video consultation hours at the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) have gained momentum.

In the first quarter of 2020, 424 TK insured persons in Bavaria would have been treated by a resident doctor exclusively via video consultation.

In the second quarter there were already 5167 people.

"Every fourth TK insured person who has used the video treatment in a practice comes from Bavaria," said the head of TK in Bavaria, Christian Bredl, on Friday in Munich.

Nationwide, 19,701 insured persons were treated exclusively by video in the second quarter of last year.

Especially in times of corona, many patients shy away from going to the doctor because they don't want to be infected in the waiting room.

That is why you can now also have a video consultation hour - a regulation that is to be expanded according to plans by Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU).

Since mid-July 2020, sick leave for a maximum of seven days has also been possible via video.

This should save patients going to a practice when they have to take it easy.

The prerequisite is that the insured person is known to the doctor's practice and that the illness permits such an examination.
