The Dubai Health Authority stated that it is currently working on counting the number of active volunteers in it, with the aim of redistributing them, to ensure the provision of assistance to the health sector in centers providing the "Covid-19" vaccine and hospitals.

The head of the Youth Council, the volunteer coordinator at the authority, Dr. Khaled Lootah, told "Emirates Today" that the number of volunteers on the volunteering platform reached about 5,000 people.

The executive director of the primary health care sector at the authority, Dr. Manal Tarim, revealed that the number of volunteers in the front lines to face the repercussions of "Covid-19", during the past year, reached 1185 active volunteers, (the percentage of females is 56%, compared to 44% of males).

She stated that the volunteering platform witnessed a turnout from all segments of society, citizens and residents, of different ages, as the youngest of them reached 16 years, while the oldest of them exceeded 68 years.

Terim continued that the volunteers ’efforts are focused on the tasks of the medical management of" Covid-19 ", in terms of triage, organization, examination and testing services in evaluation centers, and crowd control during vaccination campaigns.

She pointed out that the mechanism for recruiting volunteers is mainly through the Authority’s volunteering platform on its website, as well as advertisements through social media accounts, and direct communication between volunteers and their social networks.

It stated that, according to the latest census of the number of volunteer hours, the average total volunteer hours per person reached approximately 210 hours, before mid-July last year, while there is no data available after this date.

She stated that the authority is constantly working to expand and update the volunteering platform to attract the largest possible number of volunteers.

Last year, the authority launched the volunteer platform and called it "health heroes" in support of national efforts, medical and administrative personnel, to be on the front lines in facing the virus.
