Berlin (dpa) - Because of the burdens on musicians in the corona pandemic, the Carl Bechstein Foundation has launched a program of 120,000 euros with annual scholarships for ten young pianists for 2021.

The scholarship, endowed with 1000 euros a month, is aimed at young professionals under 30 years of age in financial distress caused by pandemics, the foundation announced on Friday in Berlin.

"In the past eleven months, the pandemic has had to cancel umpteen concerts, festivals and competitions," says foundation board member Gregor Willmes.

This creates problems for young professionals in particular to earn a living.

"They have no regular income, usually cannot live on savings and are having difficulties developing their careers right now."

The foundation wants to support these young artists.
